The Rutgers University Camden Marketing Association thanked anyone
who donated a dollar, for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the
Night Walk, with a Hershey'sï hug & kiss. After receiving their
hug and kiss, those that donated were asked to sign a banner the Marketing
Association held as they participated in the Saturday October 5th walk.
The night stared at 4 pm with music, face painting, clowns, raffles,
and even Scooby Doo. At around 7 pm the walk began after Lauren Hart, the
voice of the Philadelphia Flyers and a cancer survivor, sung the National
Anthem. As the crowd got going Rutgers University Camden students, from
the Marketing Association, Latin American Student Organization, Honors
Student Organization, as well as students from the Law School, were among
the many holding balloons illuminating the way. The night had an almost
surreal feeling as the perfect 65 degree weather, a slight breeze from
the river, the beautiful Philadelphia skyline, and Ben Franklin bridge,
all came together to create a sense of pride in the waterfront that is
not too often seen in the twilight hours.
The little over a mile route was traveled by families and friends
who walked in remembrance of loved ones, while some held tight the hands
of those who are currently fighting or have recently won the battle. And
still there were participants who were there just to show their support,
such as a group of girl scouts who skipped along the path while singing
"God Bless America." No matter what the reason one chose for becoming involved,
they left knowing the impact one person can make on the lives of others. |
